Why The '70s Theme?
The Year of Action:
The '70s were a monumental decade for Portland State in terms of the activism scene. While tension was building on campus during the Vietnam War, hundreds of PSU students gathered to protest after the Ohio National Guard shot and killed four protestors at Kent State. The pure uproar in protests on campus sent PSU into the political spotlight that would leave a lasting impression on our university.

The '70s theme that we're using isn't only for aesthetics, but it's also because we were inspired by the student activism that took place during this period in time. The amount of student empowerment that was exhibited during these times serves as an incredible motivator to push for change on campus. The protests that took place during this year clearly exemplify just how powerful student voices can be.
